Have you ever noticed how completely lovely the melody to the song Annie Laurie is? It's very moving! Woody Paul plays a nice version on his A Pair of Kings album and Western Swing innovator Cliff Bruner performed a mighty fine version as well. To honor things Scottish, there's no better was to "lay me doon an' dee" like a refreshing cocktail!
We'd always assumed that a Rob Roy was simply a Manhattan with scotch replacing the bourbon. And we were right! A lemon twist seems more standard than a cherry and there's nothing wrong with that, dear friends. We were taken aback by American Bar author Charles Schumann's assertion that a standard Rob Roy uses half red and half white vermouth. With all due respect, it's time to throw Mr. Schumann's book away. After all, Mr. Shumann is German and while they may make divine sausages, we would prefer our cocktails in the Yankee style. For each drink: Stir over ice and strain into chilled stemmed glasses.
Garnish with a lemon twist. |

And
don't forget these other fine drinks and cocktails...
